30 days free · No card required · No subscription

Built to keep you moving.

Less effort around the work

Less managing.
More doing.

Skip the filing decision. Find the relevant text. Switch tasks without rebuilding your working context.

  1. 01

    Write immediately.

Open a tab or a free-standing window and get to work. TextRay stores your draft automatically. Choose a filename and folder when you need an ordinary file.

  2. 02

    Find precisely.

Search a document, session, workspace or project folder, including unsaved text. Find closed work through the Library. Keep a live View so you don’t have to repeat the search.

  3. 03

    Resume effortlessly.

Switch sessions and return to your windows, tabs and editing positions. A pinned next action tells you where to begin, without retracing your steps.

Set up the search once

Keep working.
The results keep up.

Follow editorial TODOs, a recurring error or actions across an engagement without checking every document. A View saves the search and its scope, then updates as you edit, even before you save a file.

Literal text, whole words or regular expressions. Deterministic results you can inspect.

Organization that saves you effort

Change tasks.
Keep your momentum.

Group work when it helps you focus. TextRay can name drafts and sessions for you, so organizing never has to come first.

Sessions

A body of work to put aside and return to. Bring back its windows, tabs and where you left off.

“Resume the investigation.”

Workspaces

Link the windows or tabs you choose, wherever they sit. A window can belong to more than one workspace.

“Keep these references together.”

Projects

A folder you already keep on disk. Search its files while they stay in their original location.

“Find it in this project.”

Views

A saved search over a chosen scope. Gather matching text without moving or duplicating documents.

“Show me what still says TODO.”

Less repetition in every kind of text

Write. Revise.
Move forward.

Edit code, prepare an article or work through a decision. Precise tools help you make changes; history gives you room to try them.

For the details

Logs and working code.

Syntax highlighting, folding, multi-caret editing and Headings & Symbols. Keep reusable snippets and run your own text commands.

# Keep the useful events
def for_trace(events, trace_id):
return [event for event in events
            if event["trace"] == trace_id]

For the draft

Words taking shape.

Inline word counts, Markdown preview and precise replacements. Keep a checkpoint before revising; restore an earlier version as a separate copy.

Before the final edit

The first explanation.
The next possibility.
Room to change your mind.

For the return

The next conversation.

Start with meeting, investigation or writing drafts. Switch sessions directly and keep a return note for the next action, question and decision.

Next Draft the follow-up.

Good to know

Before you settle in.

Do I have to save every note as a file?

No. You can start with an untitled draft stored in TextRay. Save it as a regular file when you want a filename and location. Closing a tab does not throw away its retained text.

What is a View?

A View is a saved search. Choose the text to find and where to look, then return to its current results. It includes unsaved edits. A fixed scope stays attached to its named session, workspace or project; a following scope changes with your active context.

Does TextRay use AI to search my text?

No. Search uses explicit text matching, whole-word and regular-expression options. It runs on your Mac. Your notes are not sent to an AI service for indexing or interpretation.

Does everything stay on my Mac?

Your library is stored locally. If you enable iCloud, TextRay syncs supported work through your Apple account. Purchasing, activation and updates use online services. Core editing and search work offline.

What happens when the trial ends?

Your text stays yours. You will retain access to read, copy, save or export existing work. Continuing paid editing features requires a license. Trial expiry will not delete your drafts.

How many Macs can I use?

One license covers 2 personal Macs. Your TextRay 1.x license does not expire, and includes any 1.x updates we release. Future major upgrades are optional.

Can I keep using ordinary text files?

Yes. Open and save plain text, Markdown, source code and other supported text files. Projects refer to folders on disk; adding one does not move its files into TextRay.
